Summary:

The Diesel Mechanic’s primary responsibility is performing repairs and maintenance on vehicles in such a manner that their productivity and quality fall within truck industry OEM standards while providing the best customer service possible. Have a thorough knowledge of most facets of truck components, including engines, brakes, clutches, suspension, transmissions, axles, general repairs, and the ability to diagnose and repair these components. Responsibilities may include training other technicians, within their capabilities.  Vehicles must be repaired right the first time.  Must enter work performed on the computer.  Must comply with warranty procedures, accounting procedures, parts ordering procedures, parking vehicles, maintain tool controls, safety practices, and environmental regulations.  A complete set of hand tools is required to perform job duties.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with the customer to determine their needs and advise of the work done.
  • Complete fuel tickets, repair orders, time cards, and other required documents.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections as specified in the PM manual using technicians hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Diagnose basic engine, drive train, and chassis mechanical problems. Diagnose all brakes, A/C, cab, instruments, tires, wheels, 12-volt electrical system, engine system, trailer repair, lift gates, and other components that may need repair or adjustment.
  • Perform necessary repairs and adjustments using tools and equipment as stated above in the following areas: air conditioning/heating, cab, instruments, brakes, frame, tires, wheels, drive train, 12-volt electrical system, engine system, trailer repair, lift gates, and other components which may need repair or adjustment.
  • Drive vehicles within Company property and on public roads as required. Must meet required license and medical requirements to operate vehicles on public roads.
  • Perform emergency road service. Must meet required license and medical requirements to operate vehicles on public roads.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly shop and equipment. This may involve sweeping, scrubbing, painting, and yard maintenance such as mowing, snow removal, etc.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations, shop work rules, company policy, and other posted or verbal instructions from management.
  • Attend all required shop meetings and training activities. Some of these may be held after normal working hours.
  • Participate in any process and quality improvement activities.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of related experience; certificate from diesel mechanic trade school preferred
  • Prefer ASE Certifications
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical and drug screen
  • Must have a valid driver's license. Prefer to have a valid CDL within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Minimum tool inventory as listed below
  • Minimum of 20/40 corrected vision as outlined by the DOT
  • Provide their own leather, safety steel toe, oil-resistant sole shoes
  • Provide their own transportation to and from work
  • Be active in the Detroit G-2 training for series 60 and the DD platform.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Respond to mechanical break downs on an “on call” basis. Response time is normally within 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the distance to the break down. Repairs are normally done on the customer’s premises.
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing and performing repairs and maintenance on equipment. Engine diagnostics a plus.
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documents required by the DOT, company and any other Federal, State, or Local regulations.
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components or systems.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work meets manufacturer’s specifications and legislated regulations.
  • Maintain safety of customers and employees.
  • Generate work orders using applicable computer systems

Qualifications for this position:

  • At least five (5) years of related experience; certificate from diesel mechanic trade school preferred
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical and drug screen

Rental Coordinator

Summary:  To assist in providing a friendly and professional environment for customers and associates and to promote growth through marketing, accurate billing processes and rental utilization.  Act as both the frontline sales agent and asset manager for the rental fleet at their respective INL rental branch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

     

  • Complete a yard check at least twice a day
  • Maximize rental fleet utilization within the preset parameters of credit and pricing.
  • Monitor substitute vehicles. Work with Operations to reduce the time a rental vehicle is used as a substitute.
  • Identify dead-lined rental equipment and length of time for downed vehicles. Work with Operations to reduce downtime to a minimum.
  • Keep the Turn Down Report updated and accurate
  • Work with other sales associates and the Operations team to fulfill every customers’ need
  • Conduct weekly telemarketing calls. Pass leads to the appropriate sales associate
  • Manage the phone lines of all incoming calls
  • Take reservation request, and review every alternative before turning down a reservation
  • Inspect all inbound and outbound rental vehicles
  • Complete rental agreements for all customers
  • Handle all rental billing for the branch
  • Manage trip reporting for branch rental vehicles
  • Manage the branch accounts receivables for all commercial rental customers and assist corporate with FSL, GMA, and FMA accounts receivable
  • Assist the operations team with obtaining estimates and approvals and for all re-billable items related to the rental fleet
  • Input fuel tickets into the Enrich billing program and assuring that all fuel is billed accurately
  • Prepare VCN’s for monitoring vehicle movement
  • Maintain proper insurance documentation on all rental customers
  • Greet all visitors and/or customers to the branch and provide needed assistance
  • Purchase office supplies

 

Knowledge, skills, abilities and qualifications:

  • General accounting and/or bookkeeping knowledge and experience
  • Advanced computer literacy of Excel and Word functions
  • General knowledge of credit requirements
  • Experience and knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes
  • Ability to work well under stress and to multi-task
  • Education/Experience – High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience in the automotive industry is beneficial and desirable    
  • Good customer service skills including the ability to effectively communicate with management, co-workers, and customers
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Computer literate with intermediate to expert knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Ability to read, write and interpret credit and insurance documentation as applicable to job function
